Why are we humans attracted to horror stories? And why do these stories often come through the lens of religion? The new folk horror historical novel Less the Horror than the Grace tells an updated version of the Medusa myth. A young seminary graduate is sent to investigate strange goings-on in a snake-handling church in the mountains of Tennessee in the summer of 1920, while in Nashville, Woman’s Suffrage comes to a final vote. In this program, we’ll have fun exploring why wrestling with what scares us often helps us cope with the realities around us. Join the author’s widow and representative, Sharon Linnea, for a discussion about Less the Horror Than the Grace and the legacy of Appalachian religion and folklore.
